General Statement

I spend a lot of time traveling through the stunning landscapes of the American West and Southwest. While the various bodies of my work are distinctive, a consistency manifests in some common characteristics rooted in this lifestyle. For example, travel involves the mundane act of packing as much as possible into small spaces, which manifests in the work through concepts of density; stuffing tubes, jars and boxes, and through the thick application of paint within the defined boundaries of the canvas.

The process of adding and subtracting many layers of paint and other materials also mimics the recurring cycles of deposition and erosion that shape the natural landscapes I travel through.
